Isolated Devyani incident not indicative of close Indo-US ties
WASHINGTON: The isolated Devyani Khobragade incident is not indicative of the close and mutually respectful ties that the US has with India, the White House said today.

"The United States and India enjoy a broad and deep friendship, and this isolated episode is not indicative of the close and mutually respectful ties that we share," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters at his daily news conference.

He said the White House is aware of the matter related to the arrest of Indian diplomat Khobragade in New York last month on charges of visa fraud and misrepresentation of facts.

She was indicted by a New York court on Thursday. But no further judicial action can be taken as she had received the immunity, the night before.

Khobragade returned to India tonight.
