Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case: IPS officer PP Pandey surrenders

NEW DELHI: PP Pandey, one among the top 5 serving IPS officers of Gujarat, surrendered before a court in Ahmedabad on Tuesday after playing hide-and-seek with CBI for over 100 days. The court sent him to Sabarmati Jail even as CBI has filed a plea for obtaining his custody.

The development is expected to give a fillip to CBI’s investigation in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case with the probe agency planning to file a second charge-sheet against certain Intelligence Bureau officers later this month.

CBI’s application seeking Pandey’s custodial interrogation for two weeks will be taken up by the court on Wednesday. Pandey was absconding since CBI served him a summons on April 22 to join the investigation of the Ishrat case.
