Is Subramanian Swamy now comparing himself to Donald Trump?
NEW DELHI: A day after he lambasted the media for painting him a "devil", it appears BJP MP Subramanian Swamy is looking to be validated by comparing himself to, of all people, Donald Trump.

That the Rajya Sabha MP has no love lost for what he calls "MSM", which in Swamy-speak stands for 'mainstream media", is amply clear to anyone who follows him on Twitter. Now, though, he's upping the ante in his campaign against MSM.

On Sunday, while speaking at an event he was invited to, the Rajya Sabha MP talked about his campaign to get rid of Raghuram Rajan, the Reserve Bank of India governor, and the media's coverage of it.

"In the Raghuram Rajan case, the whole media was motivated by forces outside this country to support him. They said the stock markets will collapse if he goes...He was harming the India economy by raising interest rates and making it impossible for small and medium industries to take loans from the banks... it was as if I was some devil, and this man was some angel, who has come from abroad to save us," Swamy said.

A day later, on Monday, Swamy tweeted in 'all caps' - typing in 'all caps' is Internet code for shouting - an article that said the US media needs to apologize to Donald Trump for painting him as being 'anti-baby.' For sure, the title of the piece was also in 'all caps', but Swamy didn't just share the article. He upped the shouting quotient, by repeating the title of the article: WILL MEDIA APOLOGIZE TO TRUMP?

The article Swamy posted is referring to a recent campaign event of the US Republican Presidential nominee. At a rally last week, after a baby started crying, Trump first said he loves babies and that there was no need to worry.

A few minutes later the baby was still crying and Trump then said, "Actually I was only kidding... You can get the baby out of here." Referring to the baby's mother, he said, "I think she believed me that I love having a baby crying while I'm speaking. That's OK. People don't understand."

On Sunday, Trump accused the media of "going crazy" distorting things, including his supposed ignorance about foreign affairs.

Either Trump has taken a leaf out of Swamy's playbook or vice versa.
