Is Priyanka Gandhi finally taking the big plunge?
While Priyanka's involvement in her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi's constituency has been of long-standing, so far, she mostly played only a supportive role to her brother.

NEW DELHI: Amid the growing debate on what role her brother and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi would take on in the party or the UPA government, Priyanka Gandhi began a series of meetings in the Gandhi pocket boroughs of Rae Bareilly and Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
While Priyanka’s involvement in her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s constituency has been of long-standing, so far, she mostly played only a supportive role to her brother.
Party leaders said the series of meetings in Rae Bareilly and later in Amethi will be a fortnightly affair now and word has been put out to party workers—who have claimed that the Gandhis were becoming inaccessible—that the younger Gandhi, at least, was back in business.
“These meetings will take place every fortnight now, at least two meetings have already taken place with workers who had spoken out in a stormy meeting held by Rahul Gandhi right after the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls,” said a Congress leader.
In the recent assembly polls, the party lost eight out of the 10 seats that fall in the two Lok Sabha constituencies despite Priyanka campaigning in the area. “There has been some stock taking after that and Priyankaji will be concentrating on the implementation of (stalled) development works in the area,” said a party leader, adding that she will meet people from the two constituencies in Delhi every Wednesday.
Since the 2004 general election Priyanka has not had this level of involvement in the two constituencies other than during election time.
