New Delhi: The Congress on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make it clear whether he stood by Union minister MJ Akbar or the women journalists who have accused him of sexual harassment.

After Akbar filed a defamation case against the woman journalist who had first named him, AICC spokesperson RPN Singh said: “We want to ask the prime minister on which side he stands. Is he with the women or against them? We have heard a defamation case has been filed against a journalist. Does the prime minister support this?”

Singh asked how the prime minister could refuse to comment even after these ‘brave women’ recounted their experiences. “Now, the junior minister has filed a defamation case against the accuser and the prime minister remains silent. The prime minister has to speak up,” Singh said.

Earlier on Monday, the Youth Congress activists staged a protest demanding Akbar’s resignation.
