New Delhi: A Congress delegation, led by AICC general secretary in-charge of Uttarakhand, Kumari Selja, on Thursday petitioned the Election Commission of India, alleging irregularities, including questionable deletions from the voters' list, during the ongoing SIR drive in the poll-bound state.

"Massive irregularities are taking place in Uttarakhand under the guise of 'SIR', where the names of so many eligible voters are being struck off the electoral rolls. People are arbitrarily declared absent from their place of residence, and young individuals are falsely marked as deceased... Notices are ostensibly issued but never actually reach the recipients, and no action is being taken against those responsible for these malpractices," Selja told journalists. She also alleged that many deletions were carried out on the basis of complaints of some people whose whereabouts are unknown.
