Irom Sharmila and Meira Paibi reached rapprochement

GUWAHATI: Manipur’s Human rights Crudaser Irom Sharmila Chanu and Meira Paibi (guardians of civil society) has reached a rapprochement.

Members of Sharmila Kanba Lup ( SAKAL) a women’s body set up to show solidarity with Sharmila's struggle on Thursday had emotional meeting with Sharmila.

Sakal was miffed with Sharmila after she unilaterally decided to call off 16 year long fast and enter politics

Babloo Loitongbam, executive director of Human Rights Alert (HRA) and confident of Sharmila told ET,” There was emotional meeting and it was decided that Sakal will be dismantled. The Meira Paibis will neither support nor oppose Sharmila in politics.”

The makeshift camp near hospital where the Sakal use to do relay hunger strike supporting Sharmila is being dismantled.

Loitongbam said that they reiterated that they will fight for repeal Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. “It is common goal however means will be different.”

He added that for the time being given the health condition Sharmila will stay in the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal. The doctors know her and she needs medical attention. Her health needs to be looked after, politics can wait.

After breaking her fast on Tuesday Sharmail was looking for a place to stay after being turned down by her own family and a section of the civil society.

In some places where she had gone after being released she faced resistance. Indian Red Cross Society officially intimated her that they are ready to provide her ‘shelter’.
