MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner K L Prasad known to be one of the few IPS officials in the state with impeachable integrity has sought Voluntary retirement frin the force. The IPS officer is learnt to have sent in his appkucation seeking VRS on Monday. Prasad an IPS officer of the 1982 batch and a close friend of slain ATS Chief Hemant Karkare was earlier the State Intelligence chief before he was posted as Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner in March last year.

Prasad during his earlier stint as the Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) had taken on Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray during the height of the MNS tirade and violence against North Indians and had said, “ Mumbai Kisi ki baap ki nahi’, which also got him a rebuke from the state government. Prasad however is supposed to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday following which there is speculation that he might take back his application for VRS. Prasad had earlier served in both the Intelligence Bureau as well as the Central Bureau.
