IPL spot-fixing: Bollywood villain is bigg boss Vindoo Dara Singh

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested the 49-year-old film and TV actor Vindoo Dara Singh, son of late wrestler-actor Dara Singh, for facilitating deals between bookies and cricketers in the IPL.

Singh’s arrest established the link between IPL and Bollywood in spot fixing which led to the arrest of S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, last week. The actor was produced in a suburban court in Mumbai and remanded to police custody till Saturday.

“Arrested bookie Ramesh Vyas’s statements revealed that Vindoo Dara Singh was involved in fixing deals between some bookies and cricketers. On Tuesday, we detained Vindoo for questioning, and primary investigations reveal that he was involved in spot fixing, and may have much more useful information to share. We hope to get information about more bookies and their activities,” said a crime branch officer, who didn’t wish to be named.

Vindoo Dara Singh was spotted at some IPL matches, and has been booked under IPC 420, 465, 466 and 476.

“Vindoo was very close to some players and according to Vyas’s statements, Vindoo introduced some bookies to junior players even before the current IPL season started. Vindoo was spotted watching matches in Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore.

“There could be some other connections too but we will have to go through many sessions of interrogation before coming to any conclusion about the involvement of others,” said the officer.
