Involve NRIs, govt for development: Parekh

Padma Bhushan awardee and NRI Bhikhu Parekh on Saturday demanded constitution of a Prime Minister-led committee of NRIs and representative of the Union government, for involving them in the development of country.


VADODARA: Padma Bhushan awardee and NRI Bhikhu Parekh on Saturday demanded constitution of a Prime Minister-led committee of NRIs and representative of the Union government, for involving them in the development of country.

Parekh, a member of the House of Lords in UK and former vice chancellor of M S University of Vadodara, gave three suggestions for forming the collaboration between NRIs and the Central government. He was talking to newsmen here on the eve of Pravasi Bhartiya conference to be held in Delhi on January 8.

The suggestions include constitution of high-level committee, setting up of an Indian foundation comparable to the Ford and institutions for fundamental research.
