Intra-party clash claimed three in Burdwan

KOLKATA: Factional feud of TMC claimed three people in Burdwan today. The TMC workers were killed in Khandshosh in the district after a clash broke out between two factions of the ruling party at the wee hours today.

The followers of former block president Maniul Hussain and the supporters of present block president Alok Majhi were reportedly involved in the clash. Tension was brewing in the area for last four to five days over the share of extortion money and profit, said a senior police official.

Yesterday, the three of the trusted men of Majhi were called out of their houses late at night and taken to an isolated area where they were hacked to death. The deceased persons were identified as Sheikh Jainaluddin, Sheikh Shaukat and Layek Ainul. All of these victims belonged to the faction of Majhi.

Kunal Agarwal, SP, Burdwan visited the spot today. “We have recovered three bodies. As of now, we have detained 15 persons for interrogation.”

Both Majhi and Hussain are absconding. Senior leaders of TMC in the district have shifted the blame to the senior leadership. “We have been reporting everything to the senior leaders in Kolkata. But nothing happened. The factional feuds are taking toll on the organization,” said a senior leader of the party pleading anonymity.

While contacted, TMC general secretary, Subrata Bakshi refused to comment on the incident. The police sources claimed that the number of intra-party clashes in TMC are now higher than the number of inter party clashes between TMC-CPM and TMC-BJP. There has been a dramatic surge in the number of factional feud in the party, added a senior police official.
