PARAGUAY: An Argentine doctor accused of human rights abuses during his country's past dictatorship has been detained in Paraguay's capital.

Interpol says Norberto Atilio Bianco was picked up Tuesday in Asuncion. Interpol chief Teodoro Martinez says the 72-year-old Bianco is wanted in Argentina, where a court is investigating the fate of children born to women dissidents held by the country's military junta.

Bianco, a former army doctor, has said he is being persecuted by human rights groups in Argentina, where thousands died during its 1976-83 military rule.
