New Delhi: Internet services in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) started normalising from Wednesday morning, after a temporary blanket ban ordered by the home ministry in the wake of the violence during farmers’ protests on the previous day.

The directive was issued after thousands of farmers protesting against the new farm laws diverted their tractor processions from agreed routes, leading to clashes with the police, said officials.

However, telecom services continue to remain suspended in three districts of Haryana – Palwal, Sonipat and Jhajjar.

The Home Affairs Department of Haryana had on Tuesday ordered the three telcos, including state-run BSNL to suspend 2G, 3G, 4G, CDMA and GPRS services, including SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge), in the three districts.

“In exercise of powers conferred upon me by virtue of Section-7 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 to be read along with Rule (2) of Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, I Home Secretary, Haryana do hereby order the suspension of the mobile internet services (2G/3G/4G/CDMA/GPRS), all SMS services (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services, etc., in the jurisdiction of district Sonipat, Palwal, and Jhajjar of Haryana state,” read the order issued by additional chief secretary, home, Rajeev Arora.

The order, however, exempted voice calls and said it was aimed at preventing any disturbance of peace and public order.
