Inter-ministerial team visits Nagaland to assess flood damages

An inter-ministerial team of Central government on Tuesday visited flood-hit Nagaland to assess damages.

The team was led by K. B Singh, joint secretary, Ministry of Home affairs, besides officials from ministry of roadways, agriculture and finance.

A senior official in the state government told ET, “The team visited Dimapur and took stock of the damages. The team interacted with farmers. Owing to bad weather the team could not visit Kiphire area, which is worst, affected.”


“Communication network is in bad shape as several bridges have collapsed. The state government has sought Rs 800 Crore for carrying out the rebuilding exercise," he added.

According to state government, the month-long rainfall has flooded several areas of Nagaland. Around 12 people have died and 48,821 families in 532 villages remained severely affected due to the deluge.

Major roads like National Highway -29, are cut off. Communication between Dimapur and Kohima is snapped.
