Insurgents kill one person, kidnap engineer
A construction worker was shot dead and a railway engineer was kidnapped by insurgents of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) in West Tripura district, police said on Sunday.

AGARTALA: A construction worker was shot dead and a railway engineer was kidnapped by insurgents of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) in West Tripura district, police said on Sunday.
Junior engineer of Northeastern Frontier Railway Debabrata Das (35) and head mason Dhirendra Debnath (42) were on duty to supervise construction work at a site at Tuikmara, a remote tribal hamlet in Atharamura hill range, yesterday when a group of eight insurgents kidnapped Das.
When the head mason tried to resist the kidnap bid, an insurgent fired at the mason from his automatic rifle, the police said.
Alarmed by the mason's screaming, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, who were camping nearby, rushed to the spot and chased the ultras.
The insurgents managed to flee under the cover of forest. The mason was rushed to the Teliamura hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Police said a search was on to rescue the engineer.
