Insurance Ombudsman resolves almost 600 insurance-related complaints from last year

Guwahati: Insurance Ombudsman in Guwahati has resolved 596 complaints relating to insurance in last year all across Northeastern states.

Bimalokpal day was observed on November 11 in Guwahati. In virtual meeting dignitaries, executives of different insurance and also customers were present. The meeting expressed concern for comparatively receiving lesser number of complaints from the neighboring states in comparison to Assam.

Insurance Ombudsman K.B. Saha said that the Guwahati office of the Insurance Ombudsman is having the largest jurisdiction of geographical area covering the seven states of Northeast India. The purpose of the Insurance Ombudsman system was to resolve all complaints relating to settlement of claims against the Insurance Companies in a cost effective, efficient and impartial manner.


He added that there are 17 offices of Insurance Ombudsman across the country viz. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Noida, Patna and Pune.

Saha said that in the year 2017, Government of India notified new rules in the matter called “Insurance Ombudsman Rules 2017. The object of the new rules is to resolve all complaints of all personal lines of insurance, group insurance policies, policy issued to sole proprietorship and micro enterprises on the part of insurance companies and their agents and intermediaries in a cost effective and impartial manner.
