GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that those who violate institutional or home quarantine will be slapped with criminal case which will be non bailable.

Sarma who in Nagaon on Friday said, “People must keep on those sent for home quarantine. We have already made a local committee to ensure that this is followed and there is no violation.”

He added, “ However if someone violates the home or institutional quarantine, we will bring criminal case against the person which will be non bailable.”


Sarma on Thursday declared that 14 day quarantine will be sine qua non for those coming to the state.

Sarma said state health department has laid down elaborate standard operating procedure (SOP) for quarantine and zoning. State government has embarked on the policy of of ‘ruthless quarantine with human face’.

Sarma said that for one day food per person in quarantine facility we have earmarked Rs 500, Rs 2000 is sanctioned as the rent of the hotel per day. “After test reports are negative and person is asked to go to home quarantine for next seven days, Rs 2000 is earmarked for the family for buying essential for next seven days. Besides the person will get Rs 500 for buying toiletries.”

On Friday Assam witnessed highest single day spike in COVID-19 positive cases. Sarma tweeted, “ Alert ~ In the biggest one-time spike in cases, 26 cases are confirmed #COVID19 +. They are all from Sarusajai Quarantine Centre. Total cases 256, Recovered 54 , Active cases 195, Deaths 04 , Migrated 03.”

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu chaired a review meeting here on COVID-19 preparedness of Tawang district with the district administration, police and other governmet departments.

The Chief Minister said as the country witnesses surge in corona cases, especially in the immediate neighbour state, Arunachal Pradesh must be ready for any eventuality. It is in such likelihood that the purpose of the preparedness level in the state should be on 100 percent prevention on spread of COVID-19 infection as and when any positive cases arises. He said it would be failure of the state government if the spread of the disease is not contained.

He informed that a long term policy for robust infrastructure and facilities for all 25 district hospitals is being rolled out with proposed allocation of Rs 350 Crore.
