The company said that the family of the employee had been informed and it was extending 'all possible support to them in this difficult time.'

MUMBAI: Indian IT company Infosys said one of its employees was among the hostages being held by a gunman at the Lindt Chocolate café in Sydney and that it was checking on its other employees in the city.

A gunman took an unknown number of people hostage on Monday morning Australia time and the siege is still going on.

"We can confirm that one Infosys employee is among the hostages at the Lindt Cafe in Sydney. We are also in the process of confirming the whereabouts of all our other employees in the city. We are in constant touch with the local authorities and Indian Consulate in Sydney for updates on the situation on ground," Infosys said in a statement.

The company said that the family of the employee had been informed and that it was extending 'all possible support to them in this difficult time.'
