Infiltration up in Valley: Security agencies

Reports quoting security officials appearing in a section of the vernacular media suggested that around 100 militants have entered into J&K and are staying in forests close to the LoC.

SRINAGAR: At a time when state police was estimating that not more than 350 militants from all the outfits are operating across J&K, authorities are disturbed over fresh infiltration in certain border belts especially Lolab and Gurez. Part of Kupwara district, Lolab witnessed killing of two cops and a few civilians following which three militants were killed in an encounter on Wednesday.

Reports quoting security officials appearing in a section of the vernacular media suggested that around 100 militants have entered into J&K and are staying in forests close to the LoC. Infiltration has been confirmed by field reports. Infiltration reports came within days after the police claimed they have smashed Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Kashmirs main rebel outfit, after it arrested most of its top leaders and neutralised many in the encounters. High militant concentration does not augur well for the polls that are approaching fast.

Lt Gen R K Karwal, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Nagrota based 16 Corps on Wednesday said most of the nearly 386 militants in his area are directionless after their leaders were wiped out. General Karwal said that 19 training camps are operating on other side of the LoC and about 400 militants are ready to cross over. He did not rule out the possibility of militant infiltration without the help of Pakistani security agencies, reports added.
