Infiltration has increased but decline in terror incidents: PM

PM said left-wing extremism is the greatest security threat.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister on Sunday said that left-wing extremism is the greatest internal security threat.

Addressing the internal security meeting, PM stated, “Even though there has been marked decline in terror incidents in 2008 and 2009 in Jammu and Kashmir, infiltration levels have shown an increase.”

“Hostile groups and elements operate from across the border to perpetrate terrorism and Jammu and Kashmir faces the brunt of this,” said Prime Minister.

He also added that fake currency notes are being printed and smuggled into the country from across the border and there is a need for coordinated efforts between states and the Centre to tackle the menace.

Home minister PM Chidambaram said, “Designs of Pakistan-based terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir will be defeated wherever and whenever we confront them.”

Chidambaram also thanked Bangladesh in the wake of insurgent leaders being forced to return to India or apprehended.
