Industrialists on warpath
Industrialists and exporters are on a warpath in protest against "skyrocketing: of steel prices.
In their meeting on Thursday with Laghu Udyog Bharati stalwart Lala Balwant Rai Gupta in chair, they decided to start a one-hour relay fast from tomorrow infront of Phagwara Sub Divisional Magistrate office.
They would also submit a daily memorandum highlighting their travails.
The meeting alleged that UPA government was hand in gloves with the steel cartel that was increasing steel prices virtually on daily basis. UPA government was busy collecting election funds and allowing steel cartel to hoard steel for creating its scarcity, said the meeting.
Meeting rued that between the time exporters got an order and executed it, the steel prices jumped by 15000 rupees per ton.
This left exporters in extreme disadvantage in competitive global market, said the meeting.
The meeting warned to intensify agitation in case the present prices of steel, which was a backbreaking rupees 50,000 per ton, was not slashed to an affordable level forthwith.
