Indrani Mukerjea sent emails from Sheena's account to make others believe she was alive: CBI

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has described Indrani Mukherjea, accused of being the mastermind in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, as a “lady of highly ambitious nature” and said in its chargesheet that she was afraid that the entire property might go to Sheena and Rahul, son of former media baron and her third husband Peter Mukherjea.

The agency has filed a charge-sheet against Indrani, her second husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai for the alleged murder of Bora in 2012. Mukherjea wanted her daughter from second marriage, Vidhie, to get the entire financial benefits, CBI said in the charge-sheet.

The agency has alleged in the chargesheet that Mukherjea used her daughter’s mobile phone to reply to Rahul after killing her on April 24, 2012 so as to convince him that she was alive.

“Rahul tried to call on her (Sheena) mobile but instead of picking the call; he received SMS from the mobile phone that she (Sheena) was enjoying the food with Indrani and would also stay with her in the night and would return in the morning,” the charge-sheet states.

According to the charge-sheet, Mukherjea went to the extent of sending messages to Rahul using Bora’s phone saying, “Babu I know this wl break ur heart but I wish to discontinue our relationship. I ddnt have the heart to say this to u. I met someone else. Infact, I hv left with him, sorry vt hm. Sorry.”

Besides forging Bora’s resignation letter after her murder, Mukherjea also forged documents pertaining to her daughter’s rental agreement, CBI said.

The agency alleged that Mukherjea and Khanna also conspired to kill Bora’s brother Mikhail in 2012. “When Khanna and driver Rai entered Indrani’s flat, Mikhail was having liquor with Indrani. She was concerned that Mikhail had consumed a lot of liquor, but did not become unconscious.

Khanna suggested that they would see him later on as it would be difficult to carry two dead bodies of (Sheena and Mikhail),” says the charge-sheet.

The investigators have also seized the bag which was purportedly purchased by Mukherjea to stuff Mikhail’s body after the crime. CBI said Mukherjea was keeping everyone in her family and friend circle in the dark regarding the whereabouts of Bora and was telling them that she was residing in the US.

“The e-mail id sheenabora@hotmail. com was used by Indrani to send email to Mikhail on 21.7.2012 (after the murder) and to Peter and Vidhie. The account of Sheena was opened by Indrani’s secretary Kajal Sharma and she had forwarded user name and password to Indrani on her instruction,” the charge-sheet states.
