Indonesia agreed to voice India's stand at OIC: Jha

JDU leader Sanjay Jha, who led an all-party parliamentary delegation to five countries including Indonesia and Malaysia, told ET that the delegation was able to convince Indonesia to place India's position during Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) meetings.

"India has the second-largest Muslim population after Indonesia. Since we're not a member of the OIC, Pakistan often misuses the forum to pass anti-India resolutions. We urged our position at least be presented before any resolution is considered. Indonesia agreed...," Jha said after returning to India.

However, Jha said that Malaysia, another OIC country where his delegation visited, heard the leaders patiently and maintained a neutral stand.


The delegation led by Jha visited Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore. "All the countries appreciated the bipartisan nature of the delegation and also recognised that our precision strikes targeted terror camps in Pakistan, not civilian areas," Jha said.

The delegation also conveyed India's intention to push for Pakistan's return to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.

On the Indus Waters Treaty, Jha said, "We made it clear that the treaty's preamble describes it as a friendly and cooperative agreement. That spirit is absent from Pakistan's side. For the past two-and-a-half years, India has been seeking talks based on environmental shifts, geographical changes, and new dam technologies."
