Indo-US expert joins top American think tank
WASHINGTON: A former US State Department official and an expert on Indo-US relationship has joined the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a top American think-tank.


"Alyssa Ayres is one of this country's leading experts on India, Pakistan and South Asia, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Council on Foreign Relations," said CFR President Richard N Haass after Ayres joined CFR as senior fellow for India, Pakistan, and South Asia.

Ayres, a strong advocate of Indo-US ties, became the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs in August 2010. She served in the position till early 2013 and was responsible for providing policy direction to US embassies and consulates covering six countries- India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Maldives.

She focused on developing the US-India bilateral relationship and promoted greater economic integration across the region during her time in the State Department.
