Indo-Pak train passengers to be videographed at border

Government has decided to go ahead with a plan to videotape passengers travelling between India and Pakistan at the Attari and Munnabao railway stations located near the border.

NEW DELHI: In a bid to step up surveillance at the Attari and Munnabao railway stations located near the Indo-Pak border, the government has decided to go ahead with a plan to videotape passengers travelling between the two countries.

Tenders have been invited by the Home Ministry to acquire sophisticated equipment for setting up an integrated surveillance system in railways stations at Attari in Punjab and Munnabao in Rajasthan near the border, a Home Ministry source said.

According to the tender documents, Intelligence Bureau (IB) is to record the arrival and departure of passengers at the two stations. Thar Express and Samjhauta Express are the two weekly trains between India and Pakistan that pass through Munabao and Attari respectively.

"The purpose behind setting up the surveillance system is to keep a constant vigil at the entry points and also maintain visual records of those who cross the border," said the source.

Top-end closed circuit television (CCTV) equipped with state-of-the-art camera with zoom lens and video converters, video management system software, high resolution LCD panel for round the clock control room monitoring, are part of the equipment being sought by the Ministry .

The tenders for acquiring the state-of-the-art equipment for the surveillance project have already been invited and the bids are to be opened next month.
