Indo-Lebanese friendship park inaugurated
India serving in United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has made a children's park in Al Fardiss village.
Inaugurated earlier this week, the park has been named the Indo-Lebanese Friendship park to reflect the popularity enjoyed by India in the area and appreciation for the humanitarian assistance work being carried out by the Indian contingent under UNIFIL's mandate.
The mayor of El Fardiss, Anis Salika, thanked the Indian contingent for its efforts to improve the condition of locals by launching various programmes under UNIFIL's "Quick Impact Projects".
Salika complimented the Indian battalion's involvement in opening a medical clinic, providing veterinary assistance to locals who rely mainly on livestocks, starting yoga classes, teaching English to kids, organising summer camps for children, supplying prosthetic limbs to people who lost their legs and several other humanitarian activities.
"The main task of the Indian Battalion is to work towards peace and stability in Lebanon and we are deeply satisfied by the positive response of the civilian population towards the battalion," said Col Advitya Madan, Commanding officer of Indian battalion.
"The children of the village were the most enthusiastic supporters of the park. After the scars of the previous war they finally have a playground to play in," Madan added.
The park was inaugurated by UNIFIL's commander (East), Brigadier General Prieto Martinez, and is the brainchild of deputy commander of the force, Brig A P Nehra.
