KOLKATA: Home minister Rajnath Singh has said that India and Bangladesh would soon approve the Teesta water sharing agreement. “Both the countries will give their approval to it very soon. We are hopeful about getting full cooperation from the West Bengal government,” Singh told reporters at the Kolkata Press Club. On the issue of land boundary agreement between the two countries, Singh said, “the issue was stuck for forty years and now the decision has been taken. Both the countries will sign the agreement soon.”

It is expected that the Teesta water sharing pact would be signed during the PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was also supposed to visit Dhaka along with the Prime Minister. The home minister criticised the the law and order situation in West Bengal. Instead of holding Mamata Banerjee responsible for this, Singh said it needed to be improve and reports of crude bombs being made in the state was a matter of serious concern.”

He also offered Banerjee’s government all possible help to improve the law and order situation. Even though Singh was critical of the law and order situation in the state, he refused to make any negative comment about Banerjee and her party.
