Indo-Bangla to sign pact on Internet connectivity soon
SHILLONG: India and Bangladesh will soon sign an agreement for Internet connectivity through the International-Gateway.

"The Internet connectivity agreement through the International-Gateway will be signed hopefully sometime by May 27," Chief General Manager Telecom (CGMT) NE-1 Circle D P Singh today said on the sidelines of a function organized by the BSNL here.

He said a high level BSNL delegation would be visiting Dhaka and was likely to sign the agreement, adding another project related to voice connectivity was also being proposed.

"We have proposed for Voice Connectivity from Agartala- Dhaka-Kolkata," Singh said.

All BSF outposts along the Indo-Bangla border of Meghalaya would soon be equipped with high-tech optical fibres to improve the connectivity, he said.

"Survey for this scheme has already been completed," Singh said.

Earlier, speaking at the function, Singh sought the support of the state government to provide power lines for laying of optical fibre in the Garo Hills region.

"This will ensure connectivity from state headquarters to Garo Hills," he said, highlighting that due to poor electricity availability, 45 per cent of the towers in rural areas of Meghalaya remained non-functional.
