BENGALURU: Eight resident welfare associations from Indiranagar have raised concerns on the state government's plan to ban traffic for an open street event on Indiranagar 100ft road on January 15.

The groups, under the I Change Indiranagar banner, have sought clarity how authorities plan to deal with traffic on CMH road, 80ft road, 12th main, 6th main and other stretches during the event. Residents want to know how noise will be kept under check and if the event will be plastic-free.

“Indiranagar is reeling under the huge problem of people coming from all over, thanks to commercialisation. Imagine a free-for-all open street. The concept is very good. A place like MG Road could manage but Indiranagar has residences abutting commercial spaces. And what about parking? It'd help if the government can improve our daily life first,“ said Swarna Venkatraman, vice-president of the Indiranagar 1st Stage League.

The plan to have a daylong open street on Indiranagar 100ft road is part of the government's plan to boost tourism under the Brand Bengaluru campaign.

Shantinagar MLA NA Haris, who is anchoring the event, told ET that he would convene a meeting of resident associations this week.
