Indians must unite against terror: Kalam

Former president A P J Abdul Kalam called for people’s participation in the fight against terrorism.

NEW DELHI: Former president A P J Abdul Kalam on Tuesday called for peoples participation in the fight against terrorism, saying that all Indians needed to unite to defeat the bad forces of terror.

Suggesting a three-point, out-of-the-box, solution to strengthen national security, Mr Kalam said that besides popular participation in counter-terror measures, the government needs to focus on poverty alleviation in border areas and ensure that a humane approach is adopted by the security forces deployed towards people living in the theatres of insurgency.

Mr Kalams formula came during a book release function to unveil The Folds of Insurgency, authored by CRPF IG(operations) A P Maheshwari. According to the foreword by former IPS officer Prakash Singh, the book is a candid portrayal of what happens below the surface in conflict situations.
