NEW DELHI|BENGALURU: A walk home from work ended in tragedy for a 41-year-old Indian techie in Sydney on Saturday when she was stabbed to death by an unidentified person very close to where she lived. Prabha Arun Kumar, who was working with Bengalurubased IT company Mindtree for the past eight years, and was in Australia on a project since the past three years, succumbed to her injuries after the attack.

Prabha was talking to her husband Arun Kumar on phone as she strolled past the Parramatta Park in Westmead around 8:30 pm as per the Australian time to reach her home.

“She told Arun about a hefty-looking man lurking near the woods. In no time, the man rushed towards Prabha, who screamed and begged the man to take whatever he wants and let her go. Before she collapsed, she told Arun in Kannada - “chuchchbitta kano” (he stabbed me),” SC Jayachandra, Arun’s brother-in-law who is a chief project officer with the public works department, told ET.

Prabha’s body was found in a pool of blood. She was taken to Westmead Hospital but was pronounced dead at 12.45 am due to excessive blood loss. Family members said she was to return home this April, and her husband and their daughter were to visit her in Sydney prior to her return.

“A strike force has been formed to investigate the death of a woman in Westmead overnight. They are investigating an attack on a woman on a public walkway between Amos Street and Argyle Street about 9.30 pm yesterday,” New South Wales police force said in a statement on Sunday, appealing to the public to come forward with any information related to the case.
