An ethnic Indian politician was today shot dead by an unidentified gunman, police said.


KUALA LUMPUR: An ethnic Indian politician was today shot dead by an unidentified gunman, police said.

Lawmaker S Krishnasamy, the 61-year-old assemblyman from Johor state, was allegedly murdered at the office of his party Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), a component of the ruling Barisan National coalition Party.

Krishnasamy, who was also holding the post of MIC state liaison deputy chairman, was heading towards the second floor of the building to attend a liaison meeting when he was shot dead inside a lift, Bernama news agency quoted Johor police deputy chief Mohd Sharif as saying.

The motive for the murder was not yet determined, he said.
