Indian High Commissioner TCA Raghavan called on Pak Tehreek-e-Insaf's VC Shah Mehmood Qureshi during which issues of mutual interest, bilateral relations & geopolitical situation were discussed.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the party led by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, has stressed on the need for dialogue and negotiation to arrive at peaceful solutions to all the outstanding Indo-Pak conflicts.

Indian High Commissioner TCA Raghavan called on the party's vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi yesterday during which issues of mutual interest, bilateral relations and the geopolitical situation of the region were discussed at length.

Qureshi pointed to PTI chairman's recent visit to India and stated that the party believes in improving relations between Pakistan and India through dialogue and negotiation to arrive at peaceful solutions to all the outstanding conflicts between the two nuclear neighbours, according to a statement released by the party late last night.

"The Vice Chairman also discussed the scheduled withdrawal of NATO and ISAF forces from Afghanistan and the possibility of a regional strategy for peace and stability once the transition was completed," it said.

Asserting the need to address water problem between two sides, Qureshi said that sensing the significance of the issue, the leadership of both the countries should evolve a comprehensive, just and viable mechanism of water distribution between the two states.

He also highlighted the party's stance on the construction of dams across LoC including the Kishenganga Dam.

In the meeting, the multi-million Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline Project also came under discussion and it was agreed that the project holds promise for all the three countries - Iran, Pakistan and India.

Both sides deliberated upon the recent meeting of the DGMOs, citing it as a positive development and expressed satisfaction over its outcome.

"Raghvan acknowledged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and its leadership's vision of promoting peace in the region and appreciated Chairman Imran Khan's philosophy of resolving disputes through negotiations and dialogue," the statement said.
