"It is not in the day to day politics we are interested but at the larger cause of India," Indian American delegate to the Republican party's coming National Convention to formally select party candidate for Presidential election Sampat Shivangi said.
It was a vote of confidence in the "sanity" of the deal which would bring enormous energy and prosperity to India, he said. "The energy needs of India cannot be met just by one treaty but this is a right and first step and we should applaud the judgement and courage of people of India," he said.
Noting that nobody is saying that the deal is flawless and perfect, he said this is only a beginning.
"This is the best time to start that process before President Bush leaves office who is one of the architects of this treaty. We must thank the Congress and untiring efforts of so many Indian Americans who have worked hard to make this happen," he added.
