Indian Coast Guard nabs 135 Bangladeshis in Andamans

ICG apprehended at least 135 Bangladeshis off West Island in Northern Group of Islands in the Union territory of Andaman and Nicoba.

PORT BLAIR: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) apprehended at least 135 Bangladeshis off West Island in Northern Group of Islands in the Union territory of Andaman and Nicobar, ICG sources said today.

The police control room received an information about unidentified people on boat snatching an Indian fishing boat off Kadamtala, the sources told PTI.

The police control room informed the Indian Coast Guard about the incident. The Coast Guard then pressed a ship ' Kanaklata Barua' and a Dornier aircraft to search for the boat.

After extensive search, the boat was finally located off West Island in Northern Group of Islands by the Dornier aircraft. The boat, along with 135 Bangladeshi nationals, was apprehended on Saturday, the sources said.

The boat along with the crew was brought to Diglipur and handed over to police on Sunday, the ICG sources added.
