Indian army chief due in Dhaka by July end: officials
Indian army chief General Deepak Kapoor is expected to visit Bangladesh on a three-day tour next week.
They said Kapoor is expected to arrive in Dhaka on July 28, five months after his Bangladesh counterpart General Moeen U Ahmed visited India with the promise of "ushering in a new era of close cooperation" between the two armies.
Defence analysts said despite ups and downs in bilateral ties and occasional frontier conflicts, the relationship between the two armies so far remained professional.
During Moeen's visit in February the two armies decided to take new initiatives to deepen the military cooperation paving way for joint counter-terrorism exercises.
The military had extended a crucial support for the installation of the current interim government in Bangladesh on January 12, 2007 following the promulgation of the state of emergency amid growing political tension and uncertainty.
Soon after assuming office Foreign Adviser of the interim government Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said relation with New Delhi was Dhaka's top priority.
