NEW DELHI: Soon after PM Narendra Modi spoke indirectly on Unnao - Kathua rape incidents,Congress chief Rahul Gandhi demanded to know when will the victims get justice.

“Dear Prime Minister, Thank you for breaking your long silence. You said “our daughters will get justice”. India wants to know: when?, Gandhi tweeted.

Following Gandhi’s protest, some PCC units too staged protests on Friday. But certain sections of the party privately wondered the political rationale behind Gandhi’s midnight vigil when the rest of the country was sleeping, thereby, liming its visibility and impact.

The Opposition on Friday wanted to know why Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti remained silent for three months after the Kathua rape incident.

“The silence of three people – the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister of J&K, and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh -- sums up the entire attitude of the ruling establishment towards the gruesome incidents of Unnao and Kathua,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi while responding to Meenakshi Lekhi’s charge said, “Yes he (Jammu Bar Association chief BS Slathia) was my polling agent and also Lal Singh [BJP minister] was in Congress. They were secular then but the BJP has vitiated the atmosphere so badly in J&K that these individuals have now turned communal.”
