India urges BRICS cohesion amid Iran crisis, flags need for UN reform

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India’s External Affairs Minister recently visited Brussels at the invitation of EU High Representative Kaja Kallas to attend the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting. Discussions focused on strengthening India-EU ties and addressing global challenges, particularly the West Asia conflict and energy security. India emphasized dialogue and diplomacy to resolve crises early. Jaiswal noted that as BRICS president, India engages with all stakeholders, despite differing positions among members involved in conflicts. Talks are ongoing with Iran regarding ships in the Strait of Hormuz and humanitarian aid. India continues to advocate diplomatic channels to end conflicts and urges restraint to prevent escalation. Jaiswal also reiterated India’s long-standing call for urgent United Nations reform to strengthen global governance and peace.
