India, UAE to sign pact today on security cooperation
India and the UAE will on Wednesday sign agreements on enhancing security cooperation and transfer of sentenced persons.
Under the agreement on transfer of sentenced persons, those sentenced for crimes in the UAE can undergo the remaining part of their jail terms in India and vice-versa. Over 1,000 prisoners are at various stages of sentence in UAE jails on different charges.
"The agreement on Indo-UAE security cooperation seeks to enhance collaboration between the two countries on all security related issues including combating terrorism, global crimes, cyber security and money laundering," said an official.
The security cooperation agreement will cover sharing of information, training, technology and experts between the two countries. Both the countries have extradition treaty that witnessed deportation of number of criminals in the past.
