India to be a cow nation by 2025: Assam BJP President

Guwahati: Assam state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Monday stoked a controversy by saying that by 2025, India will be a ' Gau Rashtra' or a cow nation.

Dass was talking to media near Guwahati and he also spoke about the a letter from the United Nations Office of High Commissioner that pointed to discrimination against Muslim minority in Assam.

He said: “We should not be worried by it. We all want a fool proof national register of citizens (NRC), and we will have it. India is going to become a 'Gau Rashtra' by 2025.”


Four special rapporteurs have jointly written to Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj stating that NRC update has generated increased anxiety and concerns among the Bengali-Muslim minority in Assam.

Congress reacted to the BJP leader's 'Gau Rastra' comment with former Congress minister Siddique Ahmed saying: "It is BJP’s agenda to make India a Hindu Rastra. BJP is talking more on such things and development has suffered.” Leader of the opposition in Assam Assembly termed Dass’s remark as “unconstitutional.”
