India should go ahead with nuclear energy programme: Kalam

A P J Abdul Kalam today said nuclear radiation problems created in Japan should not deter India from going ahead with nuclear energy programmes.

AGRA: Former President A P J Abdul Kalam today said nuclear radiation problems created in Japan following the Tsunami and earthquakes there should not deter India from going ahead with nuclear energy programmes.

"Nuclear plants should and would continue to operate. Accidents did happen but there were always solutions to problems and precautions to be taken," he said here during his Diamond Jubilee Lecture at DEI Deemed University Dayalbagh.

Kalam said the next 10 years will be the years of nano-technology, biotechnology, info-technology and commercial technology and their combinations.

Classical electronics will be replaced by nano technology in various fields, including commercial products, he said.
