TOYAKO (JAPAN): As India sought the support of members of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) on the Indo-US nuclear deal, key countries like Japan and Australia on Wednesday hoped that New Delhi would address proliferation concerns.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met separately with his counterparts Yasuo Fukuda from Japan and Australia's Kevin Rudd on the sidelines of the G-8 summit here and sought their support for the Indo-US nuclear deal.
"We will consider it, but we hope you will respond appropriately to what the international community, including our country is concerned about," Fukuda was quoted by a Japanese official as telling Singh.
Rudd told reporters here that Australia was waiting for the details of the Indo-US nuclear deal.
"Given the interest that the United States and India attach to it, we would examine it constructively. But we need to see the document first," Rudd said.
India needs to present the Indo-US nuclear deal to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and to win approval of the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group.
