NEW DELHI: New Delhi has ordered resumption of service of the Samjhauta Express to Pakistan, which was suspended due to security considerations in the wake of the assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.Officials here said all train and bus services to Pakistan, except the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus, suspended for indefinite period following widespread violence in that country in the aftermath of the assassination, have been resumed.

The Samjhauta Express runs from Attari, India’s last railhead in Amritsar district of Punjab, to Lahore in Pakistan every Monday and Thursday, and makes the return run from Lahore every Tuesday and Friday.

Senior home ministry officials said on Friday the government would cancel transport links due to security considerations with immediate effect until further notice.
