SRINAGAR: Moderate Hurriyat faction Chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said India and Pakistan should shun the path of confrontation and start a meaningful dialogue for resolution of Kashmir issue.

"India and Pakistan governments should shun the path of violence and start meaningful dialogue for resolving Kashmir issue," the Mirwaiz said in a telephonic address to an Eid congregation at Eidgah here.

The Mirwaiz has been placed under house arrest by authorities.

The Hurriyat chairman said the amalgam was of the firm belief that dialogue was the only way for resolving Kashmir issue, which would lead to normalisation of relations between India and Pakistan.

"Hurriyat will support any dialogue process that is aimed at resolving Kashmir issue," he said.
