India needs a 'human-making' machinery to ensure humanity in youth: LK Advani

NEW DELHI: Besides the pursuit of knowledge and financial growth, India needs a "human-making" machinery to ensure the youth has values of humanity and not just theoretical knowledge, BJP veteran LK Advani said here today.

"The youth today unfortunately considers Intelligence Quotient (IQ) supreme. I believe we need a human making machinery in the country so that the future torchbearers know how to strike a balance between IQ, emotional quotient and also spiritual quotient," he said while addressing the Delhi University students.

He was speaking at varsity's Hansraj College on the occasion of screening of documentary film "Tirangaa" produced and directed by his daughter Pratibha Advani.

The senior BJP leader went down the memory lane recalling how he had begun his political career and said he has learnt a lot but has not been able to return the same.

"During my career in politics I have gained a lot, learnt a lot..but I have not been able to give back the same. With this realisation I thought it is important to have spirituality too rather than just intelligence and other supreme values," he added.

Talking about the documentary film, Advani said, "I have seen this many times but I feel satisfied each time I see it because it invokes the patriotism which I find diminishing among today's youth. The film is also a good example for how cinema can be utilised for character building".

The 90-minute long documentary tells the history of our national flag and takes the viewers on a journey into the life and times of the Indian tricolor. The film weaves in the sentiment of nationalism, patriotism and more importantly, the pride of an Indian in the National Flag.
