India may back out of N-deal if no clean NSG waiver: Srinivasan

MUMBAI: India has made clear its "red lines" on seeking a waiver from the Nuclear Suppliers' Group and may have to backout from the nuclear deal with the US if they are not adhered to, a senior scientist said on Monday.
"We have made the red lines clear ... We might have to backout if the NSG countries do not agree," M R Srinivasan, member of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), told the media.
He said India has managed to convince NSG member-countries of the basis for the waiver and the larger countries are aware of the limit to which New Delhi can stretch.
"We have to wait and see till the meeting on September four-five," said Srinivasan, a former Chairman of the AEC.
He said the NSG has to take India's case seriously and expressed the hope that the 45-member grouping will favour the waiver proposed by the US.
The US has deputed its senior officials to various NSG member-countries to persuade them to support the waiver.
