Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi today called for quick and aggressive action to tackle the spread of coronavirus in the country.

India is going to pay an extremely heavy price owing to the government's inability to act decisively, he tweeted.

Earlier on March 13, Rahul Gandhi had said that the coronavirus pandemic may destroy Indian economy.




"Ignoring the problem is a non solution. The Indian economy will be destroyed if strong action is not taken. The government is in a stupor," he had said.

Rahul Gandhi's comments came amid a spurt in coronavirus cases in India. 147 people have so far been infected in the country and three persons have lost their lives.

The pandemic has rocked businesses that were already battling a slowdown for some time now.

Authorities have now advised businesses to allow workers to work from home. A number of companies have reportedly sent workers on leave without pay.
