India is evaluating Pakistan's proposal to grant consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav: MEA

India had last made a request for consular access to Jadhav on April 2017, which was the 16th application made to Pakistan.

Consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav to be considered in light of ICJ verdict: MEA
Minutes after Pakistan offered consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav, Ministry of External Affairs in a press statement, clearly stated that India will be evaluating the offer at all levels. This comes ten days after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Hague directed Pakistan to stay the death sentence awarded to Jadhav and create enabling conditions for consular access.

India had last made a request for consular access to Jadhav on April 2017, which was the 16th application made to Pakistan. It is when Islamabad failed to respond even then that India filed a case at the ICJ in May 2017.

After the ICJ’s verdict, Pakistan had assured that it would comply with it. A day after the ruling, Islamabad said Jadhav had been informed of his rights under Article 36, Paragraph 1(b) of the Vienna Convention.

Jadhav was captured by Pakistan in March 2016 and tried in a military court which pronounced its judgment on charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017. India moved the ICJ in May 2017 challenging the Pakistani military court judgment.
