India has invited German companies to invest in special economic zones being set up for manufacturing renewable energy equipments.

NEW DELHI: India has invited German companies to invest in special economic zones being set up for manufacturing renewable energy equipments.

The issue was discussed during a meeting between Minister of State for Non-Conventional Energy Sources Vilas Muttemwar and Sigmar Gabriel, German Minister for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, in Berlin.

To further discuss this proposal, a German delegation would visit India shortly, an official release said.

Muttemwar informed the German Minister that besides duty benefits, the SEZ would enable reduced cost of manufacturing on account of comprehensive infrastructure facilities in the region, the release said.

He also asked the German delegation to look at the possibilities of investing in India's renewable energy sector, it added.
