India fixed broadband download speed declines in February: Report

NEW DELHI: India witnessed a dip of 1.75 mpbs in fixed broadband download speed in February and dropped three places in global ranking, according to a report.

“As of February, the Speedtest Global Index ranks India 128th worldwide for mobile broadband performance, unchanged from January’s ranking, and 69th for fixed broadband speeds globally,” network intelligence firm Ookla said in a release on Monday.

On the other hand, first two weeks of March saw a slight improvement in fixed broadband speeds, while mobile download speeds have remained flat throughout February and March, the report said.


Among Asian countries, China’s network performance has taken the worst hit due to Covid-19 outbreak in Febrauary when mean mobile download speeds declined from 68.3 Mbps to 57.26 Mbps .

“The overall rank of China has also dropped 5 places for mobile, from 6th to 11th worldwide between January and February,” Ookla said in the report.
